Bad Change - Aware, Singapore. Awesome poster by @luciusysg

This AWARE fiasco in Singapore has brought up so many controversial debates: Feminist movement, homosexuality, religions, secularism, transparency, etc. It's heartening to know that there are passionate folks out there who care and dare to voice their opinions. I was there at the AWARE Extraordinary Meeting on 2 May 2009. After that day, I no longer think my country is as apathetic as others paint us to be. Here are the photos that I took at the meeting: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lifeofpei/sets/72157617556395153/

And of course, kudos to Lucius Young for this awesome poster! More of his pics can be found at http://luciusyg.blogspot.com/ .

Illustrator and marketing guru MacLeod On Art x Marketing.

Artists need to learn to protect themselves, value their work and not let others undermine the beauty and spirit of their pieces. I don't appreciate art that has no soul and merely serves as a marketing gimmick. At the same time, I agree with MacLeod, that artists cannot see marketing as something outside of themselves. It's a delicate balance.

Pixação graffiti in São Paulo.

I've never been to São Paulo and my only impression of it is from a postcard sent from that city. The pixação graffiti isn't welcome by the locals, but they sure tell us more about the city and people that lives in the city.

This is why I love street art.

Sign your name in Fire!

"Fire Tagging" is a new form of graffiti where NYC artists scrawl their signature in lighter fluid, then set it aflame in controlled, approved environments.
Caution: Have lots of water on standby please.

Justine Lai

This is one provocative character!

"In Join Or Die, I paint myself having sex with the Presidents of the United States in chronological order. I am interested in humanizing and demythologizing the Presidents by addressing their public legacies and private lives. The presidency itself is a seemingly immortal and impenetrable institution; by inserting myself in its timeline, I attempt to locate something intimate and mortal. I use this intimacy to subvert authority, but it demands that I make myself vulnerable along with the Presidents. A power lies in rendering these patriarchal figures the possible object of shame, ridicule and desire, but it is a power that is constantly negotiated." -- Justine Lai
